Early Life
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, popularly known as M.S. Dhoni or "Captain Cool," was born on 7 July 1981 in Ranchi, Jharkhand India.
Father: Pan Singh (worked in MECON, a public sector company)
Mother: Devaki Devi
Siblings: Narendra Singh Dhoni (brother) and Jayanti Gupta (sister)
Dhoni studied at DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Ranchi. During his school days, he was interested in football and badminton. He was the goalkeeper of his school football team. His football coach encouraged him to try wicketkeeping in cricket, where he impressed everyone with his natural talent.
Early Cricket Career
Dhoni started playing cricket for local clubs and represented:
Commando Cricket Club (1995–1998)
Bihar Under-19 Team
East Zone Under-19 Team
Before becoming a professional cricketer, he worked as a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) with the Indian Railways at Kharagpur Railway Station from 2001 to 2003.
Despite his job, he continued practicing cricket and dreamed of playing for India.
Dhoni made his international debut in:
ODI: 23 December 2004 against Bangladesh.
Test: 2 December 2005 against Sri Lanka.
T20 International: 1 December 2006 against South Africa.
Although he was run out for 0 in his first ODI, he soon proved his talent.
Rise to Stardom
In 2005, Dhoni scored 148 runs against Pakistan in Visakhapatnam.
Later that year, he played one of the greatest ODI innings by an Indian wicketkeeper:
183 (not out) against Sri Lanka* in Jaipur.
This innings made him an international superstar.
Captaincy
Dhoni became India's T20 captain in 2007.

Retirement
